The renewal of two charter school agreements and state appropriations requests for FY 2010 were among items approved by the UCM Board of Governors when it met June 18 on campus. Full-time faculty and staff at UCM will be seeing bigger paychecks this month. Average raises of 4 percent became effective July 1, following the governor signing the the budget appropriations bill last week.. Much has been made of the need to improve access to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds and those who are part of the first generation in their families to attend college. But the many recent initiatives by colleges to increase their recruitment of and financial aid for such students will only truly succeed if the traditionally underrepresented students thrive academically once they're there.… 2 Comments

UCM has been named a member of the Community Blood Center's Community Star Club for its significant contribution to the blood drives conducted on campus during 2007. Kristie Brinkley, coordinator of volunteer services for UCM's Office of Campus Activities, received the award from Robin Norfleet, donor recruitment representative for the Community Blood Center, during the June 18 blood drive in the Union ballroom.… Post the First Comment
