The Jennies' Track and Field team continued its 2008 outdoor campaign this past weekend with cold, windy conditions. But the weather did not stop the team from competing as a tune up for the rest of the season.

Co-head track coach Kirk Pedersen said it is tough for the team to start off the season in such conditions.

"It is part of the outdoor season," Pedersen said. "However, we just have to get use to the weather and be prepared to compete."

Junior Chelsea Luck led the Jennies with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.8 seconds. Luck was also a member of the second-place 4x100 team along with freshman Nikki Morris, senior Elise Johnson and junior Evelise Gomez and the first-place 4x400 team. Other members of the 4x400 team were freshman Trisha Jenkins, Gomez and freshman Leah Bateman.

"It was good to get our feet wet," Luck said. "Given the cold and the windy conditions, we did what we had to do to get ready for the next meet."

The Jennies also took first-place in the 100-meter dash as Gomez won the race in a time of 12.2.

Other strong performances were from freshman Monique Scott, Morris and Johnson tying for third in the 100-meter dash. Brittanie Roldan and Anne Carlson finishing in the 100-meter hurdles finishing second and third respectively, and senior Haley Morrissey and freshman Kelsey Ellis finishing second and third in the high jump.

Sandy Davidson represented the distance squad with a third place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:40.69.

After the two meets, Luck hopes the Jennies will continue to improve throughout the season.

"Our goal is to win the conference meet," Luck said. "We want to compete better and better each week."
