An internship may seem like a necessary evil to some college students, but for Adam Fowler, it is an opportunity of a lifetime.
Fowler is a third year senior accounting major, who recently has been asked to work with the Census Bureau and Statistics Division in Washington, D.C.
"I want to get out there and get started," Fowler said.
Fowler has been working hard ever since he came to the University. He is in the honors college, National Society of Leadership and Success and the Men's Accounting Student Association. Fowler also works part-time at Inks and Images on Pine Street.
"My parents are always pushing me to do the best possible for myself and they help me keep up with school," Fowler said.
Fowler will be putting his knowledge to the test this summer to see if this will be a future career. He will be responsible for looking over numbers in some major industries' spending habits.
"I will be working with the Census Bureau, studying railroad companies and steel industries. I will be checking their balance sheets and income to determine how much money is being spent each year," Fowler said.
Fowler's mother, Becky, and the rest of his family said they could not be more excited for him.
"We are excited. We think this is a great opportunity for him and even though he will be far away for a while, we don't want to hold him back," Becky said.
Fowler plans to finish this internship in August, and return to UCM with a better understanding of accounting.
"My dream job would of course be in the accounting field, but something that is interesting and isn't exactly the same everyday," Fowler said.
Fowler's family hopes that this opportunity will help him finalize what he wants to do when he graduates.
