The Jennies' softball team was on fire last weekend, prior to Tuesday, when they faced the Truman State Lady Bulldogs in a home doubleheader.

They were 4-1 in the Rebel Spring games in Orlando, Fla., starting with a 6-5 win against Wayne State Friday, followed by a 10-0 win against Concordia-St. Paul and a loss to Mary 6-5 on the same day.

Saturday, the Jennies had back-to-back wins against No. 15-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato 4-1 and Upper Iowa 11-6.

After Tuesday's doubleheader, the Jennies easily disposed of Truman in wins of 5-3 and 4-0 to improve their record to 16-2.

"We had a great weekend, and I feel like we're getting over that hump," said coach Susan Anderson before Tuesday's game. "I am hoping that we are finally getting that confidence as a team."

Starting junior pitcher, Megan Leonard came into the Tuesday's game after going 2-0 with one save against Wayen State last weekend.

The 5-foot-7-inch left-handed junior from Purdy Mo. She had an ERA of 1.42 and was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week.

"Meagan Leonard is doing a great job," Anderson said. "She's doing a great job inside the pitching circle and even hitting wisely. She has shut down some really good teams with regards to having a good no hitter and last weekend, she struck out 15 in one game, so she definitely has a presence out there."

"Hopefully I keep throwing good," Leonard said. "I really don't want to take credit. I think our team is doing really good job."

Leonard, and the rest of her teammates made their presence known against Truman State.

The Jennies started with a great defensive effort, including seven strikeouts from Leonard. When the Jennies went up to bat, senior outfielder, Melissa Palmer got a double followed by a home run from junior shortstop Tracey Anderson to give the Jennies a 2-0 lead.
