After a successful season, the U.S. Track and Field Coaches Association named Central Missouri indoor track and field coaches Kirk Pedersen and Kip Janvrin the South Central Region Men's Coaches of the Year.

The duo is honored after leading the Mules to the men's title at the MIAA Indoor Championships in Joplin, Mo., March 1. They were also named MIAA Men's Coaches of the Year as the Mules won their third conference title in the past four years.

UCM won six events and logged a 24-point win.

UCM earned a 1-2-3 finish in the 600-yard run, led by senior Dannon Abney, and went 1-2 in both the 800-meters and weight throw.

The Mules swept the throwing events, getting wins from senior Dan Raithel in the weight throw and junior Jaban Moore in the shot put. Central Missouri also had victories in the 1600-meter relay and the 400-meters.

UCM had four men qualify for indoor nationals -- Raithel and freshman Drew Frizzell in the weight throw, Frizzell and Moore in the shot put along with sophomore Kai Roper in the 200-meters.

Besides the eight they've won with men's indoor track, Pedersen and Janvrin have won three conference Coach of the Year awards with women's indoor track, six with men's outdoor track and three in women's outdoor track.
