The Talking Mules debate team competed last week in Europe, but despite their best efforts, lost to Cork Debate Union from Cork, Ireland. Cork is ranked fourth in the world and it was the first time in seven years the Talking Mules lost the Montgomery Cup.

Art Reynolds, team coach, said the competition was very even and came down to the last debate.

"It was really close. It ended up being 3-2 and the last round decided it," Reynolds said.

Jack Rogers, debate coach, said Cork was a very good team.

"They're wicked good," Rogers said. "We gave them a good run for their money. We'll get them next year."

Rogers added the Talking Mules' performance earned the team an invitation to the 2009 World's Finals in Cork, which takes place over winter break.
