After 49 years in power, Fidel Castro announced plans Tuesday to resign as president and commander-in-chief of Cuba. His younger brother Raúl, who acted as Cuba's defense minister, will take over as the new leader of the first and only Communist country in the Western hemisphere.

Fidel and Raúl carried out the 1950s Cuban revolution. It has been said that Raúl is actually more impassioned than his older brother and has a ruthless reputation with his enemies.

According to CNN, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, which left Cuba on the brink of bankruptcy and starvation, it was Raúl Castro who insisted on allowing free enterprise farmers markets. He declared "beans have as much importance as cannons, if not more."

Even though Raúl is seen as a family man and is said to enjoy parties and a good joke, is it doubtful that Cuban cigars will be legally shared with Americans any time soon.
