UCM cookies for cancer raises $300
Members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council raised $300 Feb. 9 as part of the Cookies for Cancer fundraiser.
Proceeds from the event go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The cookies were sold during the Jennies and Mules basketball games.
Participants included members from the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. UCM athletics and the NCAA also sponsored the event.
Winter blood drive
The Warrensburg Police and Fire Departments are sponsoring a blood drive tomorrow at the Warrensburg Community Center.
Donations may be made from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those who participate in the blood drive will have a chance to win a Community Blood Center beach chair.
Women's history month writing project
The deadline for the Women's History Month Writing Project submissions is extended to Feb. 29. Anyone with the University or who is a citizen of Warrensburg may submit writings for the project.
All pieces must involve women's history or women's experience. The types of writing that may be submitted include short fiction, poetry, essays and biographical sketches. Images may also be entered, as they might be included in the collection.

Speech and debate place at State Championship
Members of the Talking Mules Speech and Debate Team competed at the 2008 Missouri Forensics Association's State Championship Tournament Feb. 14-16.
Janis McCambridge, senior team captain, placed first in the open division of Lincoln Douglas Debate and was named "Top Speaker" of the tournament.
Andrew Goring was named fourth speaker overall.
McCambridge and Zach Dodson placed fourth overall in Parlimentary Debate.
Kory Jarvis and Grep Phillips received the State Championship in dramatic duo and Phillips placed third in poetry and fourth in original oratory.
