The Jennies bowling team is ranked fourth in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association poll for women's bowling, but the team is not satisfied with just that.

"It feels good, but we want to be ranked higher," said senior anchor bowler Bryanna Caldwell.

"It gives us something to work for," said senior set-up bowler Samantha Swanson.

This past Friday, the team had their only home dual at the Union where the Jennies' went 2-3.

When discussing the dual, Jennies' head coach Ron Holmes said he wanted more consistent play from his athletes.

"They need to play more at an even level," Holmes said. "We have proven we can play with the best teams in the country, but also play very average."

He also said that he was pleased with their ranking, but thought that his team could do better. One of their goals is to stay ranked fourth or higher up for the rest of the season.

The Jennies are looking to find two key components to help them improve. They hope to find a player order where they can feed off of each other, and they also want to improve communication between each other.

"There is lots of depth and experience on the team," Holmes said, "We just need to learn to work together."

"As a senior on the team, we can use our experience to relate to the younger girls and help them out," Swanson said.

"You get more pressure pushed on you when the team is in a pinch," Caldwell said about being a senior.

The Jennies play next tournament at the Mid-Winter Classic in Arkansas Feb. 1-3. There is to be expected about 10 to 12 ranked teams in the country for the tournament. The Jennies see this tournament as a good challenge for them.

The team also hopes to continue to play well throughout the spring and be selected for the NCAA tournament. Its ultimate goal for the season is to make it to the National Championship.

In order to do that, the Caldwell knows what is needed from the team.

"Coach Holmes always tells us not to lose focus, and keep our eye on the prize," Caldwell said.
