Twenty dollars and a Nokia cell phone was taken from a purse in the Union Recreation Center.
Amanda Sanders, a resident of Knob Noster, who reported the theft to Public Safety.
"I contacted Sanders at Public Safety in reference to stealing," Sergent Dan Othic wrote in his report. "Sanders said that at approximately 2:15 p.m., [someone] took $20 in cash and a Nokia 6133 cell phone from her purse while she was in the Recreation Center at the Union."
Detective Sergeant Matt Vessar said Othic is still handling the investigation.
"They work the case until there's no lead, and then they transfer it to me," Vessar said.
Vessar said there are no current suspects.
"We haven't had too many thefts this year," Vessar said.
Sanders is not a Central student and was just visiting the campus.
"The Rec Center has a lot of visitors there that aren't students," Vessar said. "It's a haven for high school kids."
The Recreation Center houses Central's bowling alley, arcade and pool tables.
Vessar said many thefts result from people leaving their items unattended.
"That's a common thing," Vessar said. "The opportunity is there."
He said when someone notices their phone has been stolen, they should report it immediately.
"We tell folks, when their phone is stolen, shut it down," Vessar said.
If a stolen phone has been used, Vessar said he can track the call history.
"We'll obtain the phone records. It takes me about 10 minutes to write an investigative subpoena," he said.
"People put a lot of information on their SIM cards," Vessar said. "This could possibly lead to an identity theft situation."
