The Office of Career Services will host the 2007 Spring Career Expo Feb. 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building Arena. All-day resume help is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Union 302. There are 115 employers registered and 40 interview schedules posted for Feb. 14.Students will learn how to explore options, gather employer information and network. All students are encouraged to attend regardless of class status. For more information, you may contact the Office of Career Services at 543-4985.
Performing Arts Series host Harlem Gospel Choir
The Performing Arts Series (PAS) will welcome the world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Hall. The 12-member choir will share the traditions and history of American gospel music. The choir will also conduct a free public workshop at 3 p.m. in Hendricks Hall teaching about the history and development of gospel music in America and three-part harmony gospel song instruction.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are available at the PAS Box Office in Mo's Print and Copy Center in Elliot Union 213. For more information, you may call 543-8607.
Martin receives Alumni Achievement Award
UCM head volleyball coach Peggy Martin has been named the recipient of the National Girls and Women in Sport Alumni Achievement Award from her alma mater Indiana University (IU). Martin notched her 1,000 career victory last year, making her the all-time winningest active volleyball coach at the NCAA Div. II level. Martin will be honored during halftime of the IU Women's Basketball game Feb. 18.
Valentine's Dinner and Dance
Couples are invited to a Valentine's dinner and dance at Powell Gardens at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Couples will receive free valet parking and a candlelit dinner of choice followed by dancing in the Grand Hall. The evening also includes a glass of champagne and a free commemorative photo. Dinner is $75 per couple, and reservations are limited. For more information, you may contact Powell Gardens at 816-697-2600.
After Shock Experiential Tour
Students can participate in "Beyond Words 2007 Week" with the After Shock Experiential Tour, today and tomorrow in the Elliot Union Ballroom. After Shock focuses on discrimination against women, minorities, homosexuals and the disabled through a 45-minute interactive, experiential tour. Big Band Dance
The Department of Music will host the annual Big Band Dance Sunday in the Union Ballroom. The University's Faculty and Alumni Band, under the direction of Russ Coleman, will provide the music for dancing from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. After-five attire is suggested, and hors d' oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided.
Tickets are available for $25 per person or $50 per couple by contacting the Department of Music at 543-4682. Tickets should be purchased in advance for reserved tables. All proceeds will benefit the wind and percussion music scholarships.
Theatre Department receives awards
The Department of Theatre received awards in directing, acting, theatrical design and stage management at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival V at Iowa State University in January.
Daniel Parks received the 1st-place Barbizon Award for Theatrical Design and Excellence in Lighting Design for "A Tale of Two Heroes;" Michele Sansone received the 1st-place Alcone Company Makeup Design for "Thoroughly Modern Millie;" and Russel Terwelp received honorable mention in the Barbizon Award for Theatrical Design Excellence in Costume Design for "A Tale of Two Heroes."
Ryan Fortney and Emily Argo each received meritorious achievement awards for stage management-Ryan Fortney for "Spinning Into Butter" and Emily Argo for "A Tale of Two Heroes."
Daniel Parks received a meritorious achievement award for his lighting design of "A Tale of Two Heroes" and Russel Terwelp for his costume design for "A Tale of Two Heroes."
Photo contest winners announced
The Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee announced the winners of the Windmill Photo Contest. The first-place winner was Marcia Azan, second-place was Linda Reed and third-place was Katheryn Nicholson. The first-place winner received $75, while second and third recieved $50 and $25 respectively.
Honorable mentions went to Karin Poppe, Linda Reed and Frankie Vanderpool.
