Bamboozled?
The world's most famous 25-year-old heiress is back in the news again. No, Paris Hilton hasn't lost her dog again or taken another turn at amateur film directing.
Instead it seems as if poor Paris is actually the victim of a situation (I never thought I would say this). According to Yahoo! News, Hilton has filed a lawsuit against a storage company that sold personal items to the Web site ParisExposed.com.
The personal items of hers include a passport, medical records, etc., and were bought by Web site owner and entrepreneur Bardia Persa for $ 10 million.
The Case
The story started when Paris and sister Nikki rented a storage unit to house their personal effects (no details were given, but there was probably more than just documents) some two years ago.
Proving that just because you have money doesn't mean you know how to use it, the storage unit was never paid for, and after two years of delinquent payments the contents of the storage area were sold.
Change of Heart?
Normally, I would relish in the pain of Hollywood do-nothings, but this case is a little different. It is understandable that the storage bin was cleared; room should be made for paying customers, not for forgetful ones.
But, I can't help but feel that the Hiltons should have been contacted about the payments or at the worst, the contents could have been thrown away (besides diaries and videos, this was stuff with medical information and passports; were not talking about a tenant's couch on the lawn after months of uncollected rent).
It seems that belongings of that magnitude (not material, not particularly important to anyone except the Hiltons and the demented) should garner the same respect they would receive if the storage renter was a no name.
Foolish You
On the other hand of this legal battle, or at least argument, is what the sisters were thinking when they decided to put their personal effects into an everyday storage facility.
