Parcells retires
After four years in Dallas, head coach Bill Parcells retired from the Dallas Cowboys Monday Jan. 22 after a 10-6 season. This is Parcells' second time retiring from coaching.
Parcells leaves football with a 183-138-1 career record after a 19-year tenure in the NFL that produced two Super Bowl championship with the New York Giants.
Bengals in trouble again
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Johnathan Joseph was the ninth Bengals player in nine months to be arrested. Joseph was arrested early Monday and charged with possession of marijuana.
This has been the latest embarrassment in a long line of trouble for the Bengals organization this season. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he will be far stricter with the team in 2007.
Former Duke prosecutor faces charges
Tuesday, the state bar of North Carolina put ethics charges against former Duke prosecutor Mike Nifong. Nifong was district attorney in the Duke lacrosse case.
The state bar is accusing Nifong of withholding evidence from the defense and lying to both the court and bar investigators. The charges are tied to Nifong's decision to use a private lab for DNA testing as his office investigated allegations that three Duke lacrosse players sexually assaulted a 28-year-old exotic dancer at a team party in March 2006.
Penguins may be on the move
Penguins owner Mario Lemieux suggested Monday that his team could be moving to a new city. Pittsburgh has to come up with a new arena deal that will keep the team from relocating.
The leading city in the race for the Penguins to relocate is Kansas City. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said if arena negotiations break down and the team decides to move, the state might ask the NHL to intercede.
Senior Bowl interests NFL
Many NFL coaches and general managers are in Mobile, Ala., this week to scout players playing in the 58th annual Senior Bowl.
Mike Nolan of the San Francisco 49'ers and John Gruden of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will coach the two teams whose rosters are comprised of some of the top college football players in the nation.
Among those coaches getting a closer look at the players in the Senior Bowl is Kansas City Chiefs' head coach Herman Edwards. Edwards arrived in Mobile Tuesday and is scheduled to remain there all week.
