The Jennies' basketball team improved their record to 11-5 by gaining two conference wins against Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State last week at the Multipurpose Building.

The Jens battled back Jan. 18 from a two-game losing streak with a 73-54 victory over Fort Hays State.

While the Jennies had four players score in the double digits, the Tigers had trouble landing even one.

Junior Megan Schoenfeld led the team in points against Fort Hays with 19, while senior Meagan Fromm was right behind her with 18 points, senior Kim Battle added 13, and junior Lindsey Maple had 11.

For the Tigers, Ashlee Gustin and Naomi Bancroft led the team with only nine points each.

Fromm was on fire at the beginning of the game against Fort Hays, scoring nine of the team's first 13 points. Not only did Fromm dominate in points, but also on the boards. Fromm achieved her first double-double of the season, with 13 rebounds and 18 points.

"We expect a lot out of Fromm because she can do almost anything we ask of her," said head coach Dave Slifer. "She has been bringing the ball up about half the time while guarding inside, rebounding and scoring for us."

"Our offense improved during the games because we learned how to have patience when shooting," Fromm said. "We were getting better shots off from inside the three-point line. Now we just need to work on shooting outside the three-point line."
According to Slifer and Fromm, shooting from outside the three-point line was a struggle for the team against Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State.

"We found ways to score from the inside," Slifer said. "But we definitely need to improve our game outside to gain more three-pointers."

The Jennies were able to suvive based on their strong free-throw shooting, improved rebounding and their success shooting inside.

During the game againt Northwest Missouri State Saturday, the Jennies took over the end of the first half by making a 18-0 run, leading the half 37-25.

The Jens then began the second half with seven straight points, which earned the Jennies a 25-0 run, and eventually an 80-69 victory.
