Due to inclement weather Friday and Saturday, the muchanticipated showdown between undefeated UCM and Emporia State was postponed Saturday in Emporia, Kansas.
The game has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 19. Since then, the Mules have not played. The last time the Mules were in action they faced MIAA conference opponent Missouri Western at home.
Last Time Out
In a game where some might think the Mules would be looking ahead to Emporia State, the UCM Mules took care of business against the Griffons.
Unlike most Mules' games, the Mules' offense led the way, as the team shot over 65 percent from behind the three-point line, making 14 three-point baskets on their way to a 90-70 victory. The team has started the year 14-0 for the season and 5-0 in the conference.
"I think we showed some confidence from behind the arc early; I thought we shot the basketball exceptionally well," said head coach Kim Anderson.
The truth, though, was the Mules saved their best shooting performance of the season for the Griffons.
UCM opened the game with senior guards Wadale Williams and Theo Jones scoring a three-point basket each on a 10-2 run, and the Mules never looked back.
UCM pushed their advantage to 11 points with a couple of threes from junior forward Fred Dudley and senior guard Zack Wright, who made another three-point basket.
During the first part of the second half, the Mules put in four three-pointers to increase their lead to 54-28 before cruising to victory.
Although the guards shot well from the outside, the key player for the Mules was senior forward Darryl Sommerset. Sommerset led the Mules in scoring with a career-high 20 points with 14 rebounds.
