Now, six years later, the people of this nation have found themselves buried neck-high in a war that cannot be won. Three thousand American troops have died in Iraq, fighting for the freedom of people who do not want their help. We have brutally pushed Western culture into the faces of these people, and this is what we get for it.
However, George W. Bush is still fearlessly leading the way. Despite the overwhelming evidence against the war, he still pushes onward. In a recent interview on the CBS program "60 Minutes," he admitted the majority of Americans want to see the government pull out of Iraq, but he hopes they "want us to succeed before we get out of there."
After six years of fighting, it should be very clear to the president that there will be no success in Iraq. It is a tragedy more than 3,000 of our troops have died fighting for this cause, but the staggering number of innocent Iraqi lives that have been taken is even more disturbing. If we do not stop killing the people of their country, another attack on the United States will be inevitable.
Before 21,000 more troops are sent to the front lines in Iraq, some serious questions need to be asked. What is our motivation to continue this invasion? Is the risk worth the payoff? What is the payoff? If these questions cannot be specifically and immediately answered, let it be an indication that putting more American lives at stake is not the best plan.
