It's homecoming at the University of Central Missouri. That means king and queen candidates campaigning outside the Union, a pep rally Friday, a parade and, of course, the Mules' football game Saturday.
This year's theme, "Moving Forward, Giving Back," pays homage to the University's motto, "Education for Service."
The motto was adopted in 1916 after a fire swept through campus and destroyed many of the facilities. The University's president, Eldo Hendricks, was looking for a saying to put above the teacher training school, which is now part of Humpreys Building. The motto still provides inspiration to guide the University into the future.
This year marks the first year a student committee has played a part in shaping the activities during the homecoming week. The Homecoming Leadership Committee has added events to the Homecoming schedule including an XBox tournament, a Kickball tournament and a campus barbeque, where the top five king and queen candidates will be announced.
Homecoming is the largest campus celebration of the year. The celebration not only involves students and alumni, but the Warrensburg community is also encouraged to participate.
