The D-II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) named former UCM cross country and track standout Kristin Anderson the 2006 D-II Scholar-Athlete of the year. Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex sponsors this award.
"This is a really great award because it reflects on all my past accomplishments," Anderson said. "It is a very nice award because it commends all that I have worked for already."
Anderson said head cross country coach Kirk Pederson told her she had won the award the day before it was announced.
She said that some of her cross country teammates were there when he told her.
It was announced to the rest of the cross country and track team at practice that day.
Anderson said her parents were the first ones she told when she found out that she had won the award.
"They are always happy to hear about stuff like that," Anderson said.
This award is one that is not applied for, so the CCA looks at all accomplishments and that is how one is nominated.
When asked to pick which one of her many accomplishments or awards was most meaningful to her, Anderson said that she couldn't choose just one.
"Every one is an honor, and they all mean a lot," Anderson said.
