Poetry is the expression of one's heart on paper or in spoken word. Many people have the gift of poetry, but few have the outlet to show their talent.
Having a gift and not being able to share it can be one of the most difficult things for anyone to endure. That was the problem on campus when it came to poetry. But now, that is a problem of the past.
There is a new poetry outlet, Warm Chocolate Poetry, hosted by Simeon Taylor, in the Union Charno Room on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
Now, the sky is the limit for young poets. It gives poets a chance to express their poetry and be heard.
So, if you want to be heard, and you have the gift of spoken word, this is the place for you.
There is an intimate feel to the event, with it being held in the piano lounge and lit by candle light.
The evening started off slow Sept. 20, but the room quickly filled with onlookers for the first-time event.
The host handed out chocolate to guests to help with the theme. Many people came for different reasons; some for the chocolate and others for the opposite sex.
At the end; they all stayed for the poetry.
"They had me at the chocolate; I am a chocolate fanatic and that's what got me. But, it was really beautiful; I really enjoyed myself," said Sasha Tyler, freshman, nursing major.
"I'm always up for an event where people are uniting for a positive cause."
Poetry is not the only thing on display. There was also a featured artist that paints portraits. During the night, his paintings were on display.
So, if you have another talent other than reciting poetry, this may be the place for you. May it be singing, writing or painting, you might qualify to be the featured artist of the night.
On opening night of Warm Chocolate Poetry Nights, it was the first chance some participants ever had to recite poetry in front of people.
It may have taken a while for some to stand up and recite, but many did.
