Fitter's Restaurant and Pub hosted it's monthly comedy showcase Sunday, with a relaxed atmosphere and ample elbow room for everyone, unlike last month's packed house.

On the bill for the night was the Fitter's house comedian Joey Alfino and Jonny "Cookie Man" Pinney.

Alfino has built a reputation as being a good opening act for the comedians that come through the comedy showcase. With his Jagermeister and cigarette in hand, Alfino started off his act in a distressed manner, mentioning how he had a broken toe and was sick (though you couldn't tell from his habits). He went on to tell the crowd what had been really bothering him - that Willie Nelson was arrested on drug charges.

Now, for anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the last 50 years, Willie Nelson getting arrested on drug charges should not come as a surprise (although for it to take this long to happen is somewhat curious). Alfino rode this joke for a good part of his act, saying the police officer who pulled over Nelson's tour bus had to know who was in the vehicle - they run the plates before approaching the vehicle.

After the Nelson bit, Alfino moved on to a story in the news that worries him more than terrorism - spinach. That's right. Mother nature has found away to keep vegetarians on their toes - with Ecoli.

Alfino's comfortable, laid-back style and up-to-date jokes continue to make him a crowd favorite and more than likely will help him keep the title of house comedian.

The main act of the night was Jonny "Cookie Man" Pinney. Pinney is a large, middle-aged former boxer, who started doing comedy after he retired from boxing. In case it isn't obvious, Pinney is known as the "Cookie Man" because he loves cookies.
Pinney started off his routine by joking about his obsession with his favorite sweet and letting the crowd know where the origin of the term "hush puppy" came from.

Pinney's act was that of the loud, lovable, big guy- you know, the guy who would sit on you if talked about his mother, while still laughing at a buddy's joke.

One of the best jokes Pinney had was about a boxing match he had, in which his opponent spit in his face before the fight. The "Cookie Man" went on to finish the joke by saying, "Nothing says revenge in boxing like below-the-belt cheap shots."

With jokes ranging from married life and kids, to boxing stories and a comparison of cookies vs. sex, Pinney was able to capture the crowd's attention and had a good message to finish with.

"All of us in here are different people, yet we are able to come together, put our differences aside and have a good time with one another," Pinney said.

In my opinion, the "Cookie Man" is right, and that is what comedy is all about.
