Udall merit-based scholarship available

The Morris K. Udall Foundation will award 80 merit-based scholarships of $5,000 to sophomores and juniors attending colleges and universities in 2007.
To qualify, the applicant must be a full-time student with a GPA of 3.0 or better, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet one of the following criteria: Have shown commitment to careers related to the environment or be a Native American or Alaska native with commitment to careers related to tribal public policy and/or Native health.

Support Staff Solid Gold Achievement Award nominations

To nominate a support staff member for the service award, turn in the name of the nominee, their department and their campus email address to Emily Merchant, chair of the Support Staff Council's Public Relations Committee.

Mark G. Jackson: "What's So Super About Superstring Theory?"

Mark G. Jackson, a postdoctoral researcher in the Theoretical Astrophysics Group at Fermi National Accelerator (Fermilab) will speak on the Superstring Theory at 2 p.m. Friday in W.C. Morris 422.
Jackson is sponsored by the Center for Cooperative Phenomena. Refreshments will be available before the seminar. For more information, contact Christopher Jargocki, professor of physics, at 543-4938.

Coolest Room Contest Oct. 9-20

University Housing and Sodexho Dining Services are sponsoring the Coolest Room Contest Oct. 9 through Oct. 20. Judges will view residence hall rooms to determine which is the most creative and unique.

Alice M. Gower Scholarship

Nontraditional students may apply for the $500 scholarship. Applications are available in Union 217. The deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 1. For more information, call 543-4007.
