"We beat them the first time, but if we go out thinking we can beat them, they have a shot, but if we just have the attitude that we are the better team, with confidence, then we will have a better chance of winning," said libero Katie Tarka.
The Jennies have had that attitude in many games this season, where the team thinks it has an easy win, and then the squad has to play catch-up.
The girls will take on the No. 25 Missouri Southern State University Lions Saturday. Missouri Southern shares similar 4-1 conference records with the Jennies.
Tarka said the Jennies just have to have a confident attitude; they will have gone almost a week without a game when they play Pitt State.
"It feels good to have a week-long break," Tarka said. "It feels really long because we have practice every day, but it gives us a chance to work on our stuff that we need to be stronger in for the second half of the season."
The string of away games for UCM can be both a good and bad thing.
While the Jennies have been stronger at home, there is a premium on road wins in the confernence.
These two away games could play a factor in determining the rest of the season.
"Most of the conference games from this point are vital to our season's future," Tarka said.
This will be UCM's second straight week of away games.
They are 1-1 on the road trip, losing to Truman State Sept. 20, before regrouping to defeat Fort Hays State University Saturday.
"We didn't play our very best. We still have a lot to improve on, but it was great to win after the defeat on Wednesday," said setter Caitlin Pankratz.
Tarka also thought the team could have played better.
"We could have been a lot stronger; in game two, we went out sluggish. That shouldn't happen against a team we are stronger than," Tarka said.
