UCM Students:
As we celebrate the recent distinction of our institution as the University of Central Missouri, you may have many questions.
In preparation for this change, the Name Change Transition Team prepared guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions, which may be found at www.cmsu.edu/ucm.
There are still many decisions to be made as we move forward, and opportunity remains for you to participate in the process or provide input.
Specifically, three committees have been formed by our team to work through details of the transition, with the support of the Student Government Association.
Student participants are actively being sought, so feel free to volunteer through the SGA.
The first committee will review the effect of the name change on the history of UCM.
This includes looking to see if changes are needed to any of our traditions, for example the wording to the fight song or alma mater.
Despite rampant rumors, these decisions have not yet been made, or even discussed.
The second committee, external communications, is reviewing the options for the university's web (and email) addresses.
We know that www.ucm.edu is not available, but there are several other viable options.
This committee will also help determine the timing of the transition and will look at other forms of communication, such as toll-free phone numbers.
Many people have questions about the cost of the name change, please be assured that the name change will not affect tuition rates, as we are prohibited from using state or tuition funds.
A third committee has been formed to review costs and make sure expenses are within this policy.
In the spirit of progress and celebration, we are asking for your constructive input and participation.
Join us as we work to help the University of Central Missouri achieve its new vision.
Cordially,
The Name Change Transition Team
