A new year of school means a new year of the Muleskinner. A new year of the Muleskinner means a new newspaper staff.

As managing editor, I would like to emphasize exactly what this means. Each member of the staff is working to produce the best possible paper for you.

We strive every week to make the Muleskinner representative of the campus, while bringing you useful and informational news, clear photos, stop-and-make-you-think opinion pieces, ideas for where to go and what to see on the features pages and updates on local and national sports events on the sports pages.

We will never please each and every one of you (this includes the faculty and staff), but please duly note that we are trying our very best.

As a new staff, please do not hold us responsible for past mistakes. Our door is always open, and we welcome constructive criticism. We are also always looking for writers and copy editors, and welcome those who criticize to offer their services.

If you have positive things to say about us, we obviously welcome those, too. Secondly, I would like to emphasize what we are as a University paper.

The Muleskinner has a rich heritage dating back to the early 20th century that each new staff tries to uphold. We want to provide you a service by enlightening you with the happenings of your campus.

We want to provide a voice for you. We want to shine the spotlight where it needs to be shown. We want to cover a lot of hard news and some fun stuff, too.

If you have suggestions on a story you would like to see covered, please do not hesitate to let us know. If you have a suggestion regarding our layout and see something you think we could improve on, let us know.

We want to maintain our open-door policy throughout the year, so just because we are getting into the semester classes and have already put out several issues, this does not mean that your suggestions are not welcome.

A note to our faculty and staff - we want to hear from you, too. However, anonymous letters to writers do not encourage them to improve.

Please, show your face. Say your name. Do not be afraid to offer a word (or words) of advice. In many cases you are older (sorry) and wiser, and we respect you for that. We want to hear from you.

Case in point, don't be shy about speaking up and offering
suggestions to improve your paper. We represent you and want you to be pleased.
