Getting ready for class for most students consists of choosing between the gray sweats or the black. With the workload from your courses growing by the day, it may seem troublesome to consider taking time to focus on your appearance. After all who cares about what other think right? Wrong.
Studies show students who come to class dressed for the day perform better than those in sweats. Your performance in school ultimately determines your job placement and the cycle continues, as college students finances are the root of all our downfalls.
It is comforting to know that this will be the poorest you will be in your lifetime. But lucky for college students, several stores market to fit our below-poverty budgets.
For female students, stores such as Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 offer an affordable variety of casual to semi-professional clothing. Investing in small, inexpensive basics will eventually grow into one large functional wardrobe that will allow you to transition from student to professional.
Investing in basic items such as skirts and pants in neutral colors, will allow you to incorporate color in your accessories and tops, which tend to be less expensive.
Men can also find stores that cater to a college budget. Forever 21 recently developed a mensline that consist of moderately priced blazers and collar shirts.
For men, trends are less likely to change as quickly, as they do in women's clothing. Purchasing collar shirts are great investments because they can be worn with jeans or slacks.
Going for high-priced items does not necessarily mean your getting quality.
In a society full of 'knock-offs,' you can find a similar style to the designer name at your local discount store.
If your limited to shopping in the Warrensburg area, your one-stop-shop, Wal-Mart is becoming a new name in the fashion market. Labels such as George, Metro-7 and even Levi's are offering a discounted version of the latest must-have basics.
If your convinced that taking time in your appearance is not worth the effort, consider this- Everyday you encounter new faces on campus. Some of the people who are your classmates may become your future employer.
It is understandable to have the occasional get-up-and-go day, but keep in mind you're in college to better yourself as a professional. Professionals present themselves in a manner that is taken seriously and leaves a lasting impression.
Although class can be tiresome and comfortable clothes seem like the better option, remember you will not have the option of wearing your old flannel pajamas to the office.
Get into the habit of looking presentable now, and save the trouble of piecing together two items in your closet that are not made of fleece or flannel for your job interviews.
Setting aside just $20 a month will allow your wardrobe to grow just in time for the professional world after graduation.
