Mother Nature has taken its toll on the Mules' baseball schedule. The Mules were going to compete in the Nebraska-Omaha tournament this weekend, but it has been cancelled due to snow. Instead, the Mules will host Minnesota State-Mankato Sunday at 1 p.m. at Crane Stadium.

Central opens conference play in a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Mules (16-5) had to battle through tough weather conditions last weekend, picking up one win and one loss in the Holiday Inn Express Classic.

After an early lead, the Mules lost to Bemidji State 9-6 Friday. Central bounced back with a 12-8 come-from-behind victory against Nebraska-Omaha Saturday.

"Number one, we played in awfully bad weather," said Darin Hendrickson, Mules' head coach. "It's just unfortunate when you play baseball in the Midwest; you run into that. So, no excuse; you've got to battle through it."

The Mules climbed out to a 3-0 lead on Bemidji State after four innings, but couldn't hang on to the lead. Bemidji scored five runs in the fifth inning and two more in each of the next two innings for the win.

"We didn't have a real killer instinct in the Bemidji game, which is something I think we're lacking right now," Hendrickson said. "We're a little unaware, and I don't think we're as confident as we should be finishing guys and putting them away."

Judson Smith took the loss for the Mules and is three and one on the season. He pitched five innings allowing six hits and five earned runs. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

Travis Pyatt, who is getting a chance to help the back end of the bullpen, allowed four earned runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Centerfielder Cody Berg went two-for-five with two runs batted in, including his second home run of the season. Shortstop Brian McBryde, third baseman Bridger Hunt and right fielder Adam Milauskas added two hits each.

The Mules turned the tide against Nebraska-Omaha. After trailing 6-0, the Mules got the offense rolling. The Mules scored three runs in the third inning, five in the seventh and four more in the eighth for the victory.
