The Jennies' season came to a close on Saturday with their fourth loss against Washburn, this time in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament.

The Jennies, who finished 22-10, closed the regular season with a loss to the Lady Blues, 76-63. The team then opened play in the MIAA tournament, where it was the No. 3 seed.

The Jennies' first two games of the tournament were nail biters. The first round match-up ended with a 68-66 Jennies' victory, as Tiffany Vincent laid the ball in with 12 seconds remaining.

The second round pitted the Jennies against second seed Emporia State. The Jennies won 63-60, with Emporia missing three 3-point field goals that would have tied the game in the final 18 seconds.

The team then faced, and lost to Washburn for the third time of the season in the MIAA tournament final. The Jennies led the Lady Blues 35-31 at halftime, proving they could hang with the best team in the nation, but eventually lost 75-71. Once again Washburn's Jennifer Harris proved to be a handful for the Jennies as she scored 33 of the Lady Blues' 75 points.

Despite the loss, the Jennies received a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional. The Jennies downed Angelo State in the first-round game, 79-68. The team then faced Washburn for the final time. The Jennies led by as many as 12 points in the first half and went in to halftime up 32-23.

"That first half was the best basketball we played all season," Coach Dave Slifer said. "Unfortunately we couldn't keep it up in the second half. We just couldn't put the ball in the hole, and we played tentatively."

While it looked like the Jennies had a legitimate shot to knock off the top team in the country, the Jennies entered the second half ice cold. The team scored just 19 points in the half and shot 33 percent from the floor.

Washburn, on the other hand, shot 47 percent in the second half after going just 9-28 from the field in the first and outscored the Jennies 42-19 to win 65-51.
