The No. 3 Jennies' bowling team will travel to Baltimore, Md., Feb. 17 through 19 to compete in the Morgan State Invitational. The Jennies hope to recapture the early wave of success that has made the Jennies one of the best teams in the nation.

Inconsistency was the name of the game last weekend as the Jennies traveled to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the NCAA Mid-Winter Classic. The squad struggled to a 5-5 mark and a third place finish behind tournament champion Nebraska and Alabama A&M. This marked the lowest finish in any tournament for the team this season.

Head coach Ron Holmes said it was a tale of two different teams between Saturday and Sunday.

"We didn't play very consistently; we were making very uncharacteristic mistakes," Holmes said. "We played a lot better on Sunday, but if we play like that anymore, we will have a rough time with the rest of our schedule."

Despite the struggles, there were some positives to draw from the meet. For the second time in as many tournaments, the Jennies were able to defeat Nebraska head-to-head, while senior Sara Cox continued her strong play. The Jennies' senior finished 10th overall with a score of 197.20.

Holmes said even though the win over the top team in the country was nice, the mistakes made throughout the rest of the tournament were of greater concern.

"We played [Nebraska] like we're normally capable of," Holmes said. "It seems as though [on Saturday] we are not on the same mindset to play the conditions.

"In a sport-like atmosphere it can be very demanding and we are not on the same game plan until Sundays."

The tournament featured daunting competition as all six teams were ranked in the top 15 going into the event. The road will not get any easier as at least 20 teams will be ranked in the Baltimore tournament.

This high level of competition may be taking its toll on the squad. Holmes said with other teams improving drastically in the off season, the field of competition may be leveling out.
