Students need to be held accountable for their actions and students need to help with this.
I'm tired of hearing about antennas being broken off cars in the parking lots over night, CD players being stolen, vehicles being tampered with and other mindless crimes.
I can speak about this topic from personal experience.
Last semester, I received a call from my parents at 5:30 in the morning telling me public safety was waiting for me in the student parking lot, as someone had decided it would be funny to rip a piece off my vehicle and leave it sitting on the concrete.
Needless to say, I didn't find it very funny standing there in front of the officer in my pajamas.
Decorations are ripped from doors in the dorms, people cause and participate in fights in the hallways and things are taken from rooms because someone didn't feel it was necessary to lock his or her door.
There is property damage on campus and people driving off after hitting another person's car.
Do people take time to think about how their mindless actions harm others?
This is a wonderful campus; and people need to step up and act like adults.
So, I have a few challenges for Central students.
First, report the crimes you see. Even if it isn't your car, dorm floor or property being messed with, it is someone's.
Take the few minutes to call the authorities and help right the wrong.
Second, lock your vehicle and room doors. Some people won't stop messing with other people's stuff, and you can help prevent that.
As for you, fellow victims of these crimes, I have some advice: help others prevent these things from happening to them, and cooperate with the authorities.
The police and public safety really are trying to help.
Let's see what we can do to assist them in these matters.
