The Multipurpose Building will be a welcomed sight for the No. 17 Mules' basketball team as it hosts Emporia State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Missouri Southern at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Mules (13-3, 3-2 MIAA) have gone 6-2 since the last publication, and even with improvement in some areas, they are trying to find themselves.

"I'm really looking for some consistency in our performance every night," Anderson said. "We played Northwest Missouri to double overtime, and it was really a great college basketball game. The next time we came out against Truman, we were flat.

"In order for us to contend in this league and have a chance at advancing to postseason play, we have to be more consistent on both ends of the floor. Hopefully we've started to develop that."

With the 99-94 victory against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats Dec. 31, the Mules had won five straight games and found themselves on a bit of a roll. The streak began Dec. 10 in Topeka, Kan., as Central defeated Washburn 76-68 in its first conference game.

The Mules then picked up two victories in the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 16 and 18. The Mules defeated Eastern New Mexico University 75-67 and Rollins College 89-55 before a three-game home stand.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University visited the Multi Dec. 22 for the Mules' final non-conference game of the season. Central picked up an 84-73 win before concluding the streak against Northwest.

"I think we're playing pretty well," said junior center Alonzo Brooks. "We've still got some things to work on defensively, but we're about midway through the games we've got now. We should be good."

After the hard-fought battle against Northwest, the Mules fell 77-69 against No. 16 Truman State in the Multi Jan. 4.

The Mules quickly got back into the win column when they traveled to St. Joseph, Mo., last Saturday to face Missouri Western. Central came out with a 87-84 victory and found itself tied for first in the MIAA.

Senior guard Michael Hicks said the team needed the win after the defeat against Truman.

"We came off a pretty good win [against Western] because we came off a bad loss against Truman," Hicks said. "We just wanted to go in Saturday night and get us a good win. I think we've been playing pretty well."
