Two former recipients of Central's Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Scholarships will share their success stories as they join in the University's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, "Living the Dream - Continuing the Legacy," Jan. 11 to 25.

Central alumni Lydia McGhee and Noel Hwande are keynote speakers for the Freedom Scholarship Dinner at 6 p.m., Tuesday in the Multipurpose Building. Both will speak on the impact the Freedom Scholarship program has had on their academic successes and careers.

McGhee, of St. Louis, earned a bachelor's degree in public relations in 2001 from Central, where she also is completing requirements for a graduate degree. She is a market analysis locations specialist for Edward Jones in St. Louis, where she also is a freelance reporter for the St. Louis American. During her college career, McGhee was named African Exodus Queen, Central Homecoming Princess and was a four-year member of the Association of Black Collegians Dance Company.

He currently is co-founder and CEO of Safirio.com and Safirio Design in St. Louis, a firm specializing in Web site design and Web-based marketing strategies. He also held a position as a sales assistant with Interep, a St. Louis marketing firm.

While at Central, Hwande served as president of the Student Government Association. He was a member of the Central Student Foundation, Students for Quality Education in Television and Mace and Torch Honor Society. He also served on the President's Strategic Planning and Resource Committee, the Grievance Committee appointed by the University provost and the Muleskinner Publication Board.
