According to a recent study conducted by the United States' Department of Justice, about three percent of college women experience either an attempted or completed rape each year.
In addition, college women are three times more likely to experience an assault than non-college women.
Unfortunately, these statistics do not reflect the numerous assaults that remain unreported.
In recent news, Warrensburg has experienced three reported sexually-related assaults in the past two weeks.
Students should take the following precautions in preventing the possibility of becoming a victim of these assaults:
* Always be aware of your surroundings.
* If you have to walk alone at night, keep your hands free and your eyes open.
* When walking to your car, have your keys ready.
* Tell someone where you will be and a time they can expect your return.
*Avoid going to unfamiliar places alone.
Most assault victims said they thought it would never happen to them. Please take these precautions to ensure it never happens to you.
