Have campus policy makers gone too far?

Siena College in Albany, N.Y., has issued a new policy banning students from consuming any beverage, including bottled water outside dorms or in any public area on campus.

Siena officials say the implementation of the policy was due to the numerous parties being held outside student apartments earlier this semester.

The duration of the policy has yet to be decided, but officials feel this could somehow decrease the problem of outdoor parties in the future.

After reading the brief above, it came to our attention that some campus officials tend to take advantage of opportunities that allow them to use their authority.

Many Siena students said they think the new policy is "a little stupid."

When it comes to college campuses, nobody knows them better than the students who attend.

We suggest that in the future, campus officials look more at what students feel would eliminate the problems without going to extremes.

A big misconception of campus officials is that students are not interested in the policies that could be implemented on campus.

By simply making it easier for students not involved in student government organizations to have a voice in decisions could possibly make it easier for both students and officials to understand and enact reasonable policies.
