President Aaron Podolefsky announced in an e-mail Wednesday that he planned to restructure responsibilities in two key administrative posts.
The responsibilities of the vacant half-time position of director of governmental relations will be transferred to Ann Pearce, special assistant to the president.
The reporting line for this position will move from University Advancement to the Office of the President.
"Ann's knowledge of legislative matters and political issues facing higher education will lend itself well to her newly assigned duties in governmental relations and blend well with her work in external relations," Podolefsky said.
This position works closely with the firm of Madsen & Wright, which has provided governmental consulting for the university since 2002.
Discussions with legislators indicate that the university is well served by the firm," Podolefsky said. "Therefore, I plan to renew the contract for services for the period January 1, 2006 to June 30, 2006. This will align the contract with the fiscal year."
Podolefsky also plans to expand the role of General Counsel Judith Siminoe to work more closely with the president's office to assist campus constituents in solving problems.
"By doing so, this will allow me to be more proactive in external relations with important constituencies in government and in the private sector," Podolefsky said.
As a follow-up to the Vice President searches, committees have now been formed for the Vice President of Student Affairs and Vice President of Administration and Finance.
"We hope to have the search committee for the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs established by the end of the week," Podolefsky said. "I believe these administrative changes will prove beneficial and appreciate your support as they are implemented."
